Washington Township Police responded to a report of a physical dispute near Rt. 57 East and School Street in Washington Borough shortly after 7:20 p.m. on June 17, authorities said Tuesday.
Upon arrival, the vehicle had fled the scene but was quickly located on E. Washington Avenue, authorities said.
A follow-up investigation determined that the vehicle had struck a child riding a bicycle at the intersection and fled the scene, police said.
Meanwhile, the passenger — a 30-year-old Washington man whose name was not released by police — had exited the vehicle and assaulted a child and a man who had stopped to check on the struck cyclist, police said.
The man was arrested and charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, and a local ordinance for maintaining a nuisance.
The driver was issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving, following too closely, failure to report a motor vehicle accident and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.
Both were released pending mandatory court appearances.
